This is a hot mango peri-peri sauce for those who enjoy a bit of heat and eat peri-peri regularly packaged in a glass bottle.

Annie Louw, a farm girl from Hectorspruit, had three great loves: a man in uniform, ripe mangoes, and a serious kick of heat.

Captain Jan Brandt offered two of those in abundance, while Annie's father was one of the region's mango farmers. It wasn't long before they married and she accompanied the Captain to Kaapsehoop.

Annie soon put her own stamp on the Captain's original Mango Peri-Peri Sauce, turning it into a bolder, hotter recipe that perfectly matched her fiery taste.

Family legend has it that Annie inherited her passion for spice from her grandfather, who believed everything tasted better with a little more heat.

And if the stories are to be believed, Annie never started her day without adding something deliciously hot to her breakfast of sausage and eggs.
