Everyone in Kaapsehoop knew that when the marula trees began dropping their fruit, Annie disappeared for a few days.

The Captain used to tease that she was out gathering enough marulas to keep the elephants happy. Annie would simply smile, pick up another basket, and disappear into the Lowveld bush.

Only the very ripest marulas ever made it into Annie's kitchen. She believed that nature had already done most of the work—all she had to do was capture the sunshine in a jar.

After hours of stirring, tasting and just a little bit of secret magic, Annie created a smooth golden jelly bursting with the unmistakable flavour of the African bushveld.

It wasn't long before neighbours started arriving with empty jars instead of greetings, hoping Annie had made another batch. Before anyone realised it, people were travelling from far and wide just to take home a taste of the Lowveld.

The Brandt family still says that every jar of Annie's Marula Jelly holds a little sunshine from the African bush.
